Intro: (Dm)(G)(Am)

I'm not a (Dm)leader,
I'm not a left-wing, rhetoric (G)mobilizing force of (C)one
But there was a (Dm)time way back many years ago, in (G)college, don't
(C)laugh
But I thought I was a (Dm)radical
I ran the Hemp Liberation (G)League with my (Am)boyfriend
It was (Dm)true love, with a common cause
And (G)besides that, he was a (C)Sagittarius (G)(Am)

We used to (Dm)say that our love was like hemp rope
Three (G)times as strong as the rope that you buy (Am)domestically
And we would (Dm)bond in the face of oppression from big (G)business and
(C)the deans
But I know there was a (Dm)problem, every time the group would (G)meet
Everyone would (Am)light up
That made it (Dm)difficult to discuss glaucoma, (G)human rights
Not to mention chemo(C)therapy (G)(Am)

Well (Dm)sometimes, life gives us lessons (G)sent in ridiculous (Am)packaging
And so I (Dm)found him in the arms of a Student (G)Against the Treacherous Use
of (C)Fur
And he gave no (Dm)apology
He just turned to me, stoned (G)out to the edge of (Am)oblivion
He didn't (Dm)pull up the sheets, and I think he even (G)smiled as he said to
(C)me:

(Spoken)"Well, I guess our dreams went up in smoke - heh, heh"

And I said "No, our dreams went up . . in dreams . . .
You stupid pothead."

And (Dm)another thing,
What kind of a name is (G)Students Against the Treacherous Use of (Am)Fur?
Fur is (Dm)already dead,
And besides a name like (G)that doesn't make a good (C)acronym (G)(Am)

I am (Dm)older now
I know the rising gradual (G)fall of a daily (Am)victory
And I still (Dm)write to my senators saying they should legalize (G)cannabis
And I should (C)know, 'cause I am a horti(Dm)culturist
I have a husband and two (G)children out in (Am)Berkeley

And my (Dm)ex-boyfriend can't tell me I've sold (G)out
Because he's in a (C)cult
(G)And he's not allowed to (C)talk to me. (G)(C)
