July 30, 2001 It was another fabulous weekend
at the Falcon Ridge Folk Festival. I think it's the first time I've ever
been to a folk festival and not been rained on. The weather alone is enough
to have made the weekend! There was a little bit of Dar. She sang one song
with the Nields in their mainstage set on Saturday night, coming out looking
very New York in a black sleeveless top, black pants and a brown suede
jacket. Her mainstage set with Carole Steele was good. She mentioned her
fiancee Michael was backstage and made everyone on the hill turn their
lights on during Iowa to show him how awesome it looked (she got a bit
tripped up on the words . . . maybe she needs to practise that song a little
more - heh, heh). On Sunday at her workshop stage appearance she sang Farewell
to the Old Me. It was the only new song she sang. She said she's not been
writing songs much as she's busy writing a book.
Now the updates:
Dar did not sign the release and
her segments from FRFF will not be part of the web rebroadcast on acousticboxoffice.com
on August 13, 14, 15, and 16. Each day will be 24 hours of Friday, Sat
afternoon, Sat Evening and Sunday respectively. There's a small fee to
stream the event but if you weren't there it's still worth it for many
things including the Friday night song swap and anything involving Susan
Werner!
If you're going to send something
to Susan Moss for inclusion in the memory book for Dar's engagement, then
do it today! This is your last chance. Details
.
A link to a interview Dar did
in Lawrence, Kan., last fall has been added to the library
. It was up there but then I lost to it. Thanks to Kristen
Myshrall for relinking!
Dar won the "best singer-songwriter
of the valley" award from the Valley
Advocate . As Norman Johnson says: he guesses they don't know or are
in denial that she doesn't live in Northampton, Ma., anymore.
July 24, 2001 After last week's flurry of
activity things seem to have calmed right down!
There's an article from the Houston
Press from Oct. 2000 been added to the library
.
Thanks to Sally
Green for the link.

Here is the latest update on the
fall tour. The start and end dates are solid but some of the venues and
so on still have to be worked out. These are the US dates only (there's
no Canadian dates this time) . . . nothing about Europe/UK yet. Go
to the tour schedule.
July 17, 2001
Check the news
page for info about Dar's fall tour. She'll be making it over to the
U.K. this time.

There's a whole whack of new dates
up for the fall tour. These are preliminary but I believe pretty solid.
However, things changes so keep checking the
tour schedule .
According to Dar's manager, Ron
Fierstein, the marketing gurus put the kaisbosh on Peace Man, Cool Yeah
as the name of the new CD. The new name is Out There Live.
Stephanie Catherine Smith
came up with the name. Also, Terry Fain suggested "Out There" so Ron's
crowning her as a runner-up. Stephanie, as our real winner, will get a
special mention in the CD booklet, an advance copy of the CD, the 4 tickets,
and another special grand prize that they're still thinking about. Terry
will get prizes as well.

Here are the details on the track
listings for the upcoming live CD due out Sept. 25.
MEDIA ALERT: The
Austin
City Limits episode that Dar taped last year will be re-run this week.
So check your local listings for when the show runs in your area (I can
tell you for sure that it's not on WNED in Buffalo, NY this week
but it is on WGBH in Boston, so check for your local station)

You skulk around long enough,
eventually you find something. This time, it's a 1997 PR shot of Dar that
I've seen but never could get my hands on. It's on page 2 of the Pro Shots
in the Gallery . Again, a reminder if you have
pix of Dar that you think need to be on darwilliams.net, you should
drop me a line.

July 2, 2001 And the winner is . . .
Okay Dar's the winner of her own
name-the-live-CD contest. Sheesh, how's anyone supposed to compete with
a wordsmith like her?! Anyway, the disc will be called Peace Man, Cool
Yeah: Dar Williams Live (that's my punctuation, I hope they go with
it!)
But four darlisters got honourable
mentions and will each win four free concert tickets and an advance copy
of the CD for their ideas. And just to toot their horns, I'll mention their
ideas here too!
